The SAT, which stands for Scholastic Assessment Test, is a standardized test that is widely used in the United States for college admissions. It is designed to assess a student’s readiness for higher education and is typically taken by high school students, who are planning to apply to colleges and universities.

The SAT is exclusively owned, developed and published by College Board, a private, non-profit organization located in the United States. The Educational Testing Service administers the test on behalf of College board.

The SAT measures a student’s knowledge and skills in five main areas:

  1. Evidence Based Reading
  2. SAT Writing
  3. Math with calculator
  4. Math without calculator
  5. Essay

While the Essay sections used to be a required part of the SAT, it became optional in 2021.

Each of the main sections of the Sections of the SAT is scored on a scale from 200 to 800 and the optional Essay is scored separately. The total SAT score is the sum of the scores for Evidence Based reading and writing and math scores, with a maximum possible score of 1600.
